The current logo for our university sports teams is an "R" in the form of a wave. It should be retained as an alternate logo but we need a sports logo that is more than a variation on the university logo. The new logo is an anchor with a rope wrapped around it on top of a ship's porthole. This will be a nod to our teams nautical theme and our importance to the U.S. Navy during World War II.
During the war, Navy ships ported at Navy Pier to protect them from both Germany and Japan. This was the idea of Franklin Roosevelt and it solidified Chicago as a Navy town.
The new logo retains a gender neutral design, and the new name, Tarjack, refers to all Sailors, male and female.
It would be up to the Athletic Department if they wanted to adopt the logo for all sports teams. It is an original design though admittedly it was influenced by the logo of the Toronto Argonauts Canadian Football team.
Another logo that would be used on the uniforms would be a variation on the "R" logo for the university, but with a silver stroke around it.
